Media Server is Interesting but Does it Have a Future

First, what is a Media server; imagine an interesting machine sitting in one of your rooms. This machine has capability of storing all the movies or music that you care. It can send movies & music to all the TVs, Music Players and other home entertainment devices. Yes, this machine is media server that you can use to store thousands of DVDs & CDs and play it on demand from any room of your house.

Now coming to the question of future, this is how I see it. As internet connectivity becomes faster & cheaper, i-tunes of the world will compete with home entertainment storage devices including DVD, newly introduced Blue-Ray and consumer centric media servers.

The future is about accessing your song or movie from Internet and not from your home. You need not worry clutter of DVDs or even exotic media server box when it comes to your living room of future.

If you want to read more on his topic, here is a useful comparison between DVD, Blue Ray & Media servers.
